With the difficulties faced by today’s global economy, many American companies are looking overseas to save on labor, materials, and other costs. As it turns out, over 98% of all footwear sold in the U.S. is manufactured in another country.
Sure, outsourcing labor and buying from foreign manufacturers can save us money right now, but doing so can take an enormous toll on both the American economy and the environment. When we buy from a brand that outsources their labor, American jobs go to other countries, oil prices rise from shipping, and the quality of our water and air suffers.
Here at Okabashi, we’re proud to say that all of our products are made at our manufacturing headquarters in the U.S., as they have been since we started almost 30 years ago. At our manufacturing plant in beautiful Buford, GA, we have over 200 full-time and factory employees, which means that the money you spend on every pair of Okabashis stays right here in the U.S.A. At the end of the day, buying American-made products like Okabashi footwear is just good economics.
And by making our products in the U.S., we’re able to reduce the amount of fuel that is used to send products to consumers like you. On average, Okabashi shoes travel a distance of 700 miles, while imported shoes travel nearly 11,600 miles to get to you. By reducing the amount of fuel spent on shipping, we’re able to help decrease the demand for fuel, as well as reduce the amount of harmful chemicals emitted into the air from shipping vehicles.
Ultimately, reducing our carbon footprint and ensuring a strong American economy is up to each one of us. When we buy American-made products, our nation prospers, and the beauty of the world flourishes.
